Divine Mother took Several Forms to ruin Demons who were going in the Path of 'Adharma'.

One of the Form, She Took is as 'Shree Durga'.


To destruct the Asura King named as Durkaman,she took 12 Year Old Female Child.

And She Killed the Asuran - Durkaman in the Battle.

Since she Killed 'Durkaman',she was entitled as "Durga".

And Her name has another Meaning.

|| The One who Protects her devotee from the river of 'Dhukkam' [Miseries and Sadness] is known as 'Durga'. ||

From earlier Period up to this Period,People worship her to get Victory and Success in their actions.


In Mahabharatha ,Lord Krishna Adviced Arjuna to Perform 'Durga Pooja' to get Victory in the 'GuruKshetra' - battle field between Gauravas and Pandavas.

According to Lord Krishna's advice Arjuna Performed 'Shree Durga Pooja' on Previous day,the day before to the War.

And Divine Mother - Shree Durga appeared before him ,Granted him the Boon of Success and She gave assurance that the Victory is for Pandavas.

In Previous days before the war starts, kings including Chera,Chola,Pandiya used to worship 'Shree Durga Ma' to get the benefit of Success in the War.

In Tamil She is Called as 'Kotravai'.I think you may studied these details in School days.

In 'Devi Mahathmiyam' She gave Boon to Dhevas [Angels], and , told that She will protect the Person Who Worship her and Pronounce her name with True,sincere and heartful devotion.

Though all the days are suitable to perform Durga Pooja.It is Special to Worship her at 'Raagu Kaalam'.why Because,During Raagu kaalam,'Raagu' - one of the Devatha of Nine Planets [Nava Graham], who is in the Form of a serpant,used to worship her.

Those who have Raagu dhosham/Sarpa Dhosham in their 'Jadhakam' will get relief by worshipping her at Raagu kaalam.

Raagu kaalam appears daily.

Mon - 7.30 AM to 9.00 AM

Tue - 3.00 PM to 4.30 PM

Wed - 12.00 PM to 1.30 PM

Thu - 1.30 PM to 3.00 PM

Fri - 10.30 AM to 12.00 PM

Sat - 9.00 AM to 10.30 AM

Sun - 4.30 PM to 6.00 PM

Suba Karyam or Mangala Karyam like Wedding,Starting New Business,Opening New Building,Graha Prevasem won't be performed during Raagu Kaalam.

But,Pooja will be Performed at that Time.

Tiger is the 'Vaahanam' [i.e] Vehicle of Divine Mother Durga.

The Tiger which is her Vaahanam is the Symbol and representative of 'Dharmam'.

In anohter Words,it is said,

'Dharmam' is being as 'Vaahanam' for her, in the form of Tiger.
